Pedestrianisation and revamped transport are central to this goal.

The council wanted to create new public spaces and improve transport and travel into and around the city centre with better routes and facilities for public transport and active travel.

The project has been funded through West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) programme.

As part of the works, Hostile Vehicle Mitigation measures have been installed in the city centre.

Bradford MDC partnered with Crowdguard to design and implement HVM measures, utilising products from six leading manufacturers. A full HVM specification and design was provided, which included appropriate and proportionate HVM solutions based on Crowdguard's counter-terrorism strategy.

Installation of the ISO22343-1 /PAS68 / IWA14 tested permanent HVM products began in January 2024.

The newly installed measures include Heald Matador ST4, Townscape CT Sentry Block, ATG Access Centurion, Marshalls 7250 shallow mount bollards, MACS Pilomat automated bollards and Unafor Core. The work was completed earlier this month.

The opening events for Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture were held on 10 and 11 January with an outdoor theatrical event in City Park and Centenary Square.

Fri, 31 Jan 2025 15:28:40 +0000 Polly Jones 17330 at /news/31012025/new-hvm-pedestrianised-bradford-city-centre#comments York HVM set to be completed /news/21082024/york-hvm-set-be-completed

The final set of hostile vehicle mitigation measures to complete the protective ring around York city centre are set to be installed on Tuesday 27 August.

The new, high-security sliding bollards will sit across the junction of High Ousegate and Parliament Street with Piccadilly, and will align with the fixed bollards already in place outside All Saints’ Church and at the end of Parliament Street.

The work is expected to take up to nine weeks.

Cllr Kate Ravilious, Executive Member for Transport at City of York Council, said: "This is the last section of the ring of bollards installed to help protect everyone visiting, working and living in the city centre. I’m sorry for any disruption this final work may cause. Thank you for your patience and co-operation while it’s underway.

“To support businesses and people in the city centre, our team is ensuring that access remains open, and that anyone using the pavements will have the necessary 1.5 metres width to pass by the work area.

“As with previous installations, we’re working with The York BID to promote local businesses which may be affected.

“Please expect the works to take up to 9 weeks, although we hope they will finish earlier than that. If you’ve any concerns, should please let us or the contractor’s public liaison officer know as soon as possible.”

Wed, 21 Aug 2024 10:34:22 +0000 Polly Jones 17093 at /news/21082024/york-hvm-set-be-completed#comments
