UK travellers warned of increased terror threat in Tanzania

Travellers going to some parts of Tanzania have been warned by the UK government that "terrorists are likely to try and carry out attacks".
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) advises against all but essential travel to within 20km of the Tanzanian border with Cabo Delgado Province in Mozambique.
This is due to attacks by groups linked with Islamic extremism.
In particular, female, disabled and LGBTQ+ travellers have been urged to read all the advice before setting off.
The said: "There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. Stay aware of your surroundings at all times."
Mozambican security forces have been fighting armed groups from Ansar al-Sunna and the Islamic State in Cabo Delgado since the end of 2017. This is part of a current uprising aiming to set up an Islamic state in the area.
Travellers should consult the UK Counter Terrorism Policing's information and advice on staying safe abroad and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack.
